Tom Davoren Premiere at BASBWE London Festival 2011

Works: Tom Davoren\'s \'Looking In . . . a self portrait for Wind Orchestra\' will be performed on Sunday 27th March as part of the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles (BASBWE) London Bestival.\'Looking In\' will be featured in a afternoon concert by the Eynsford Convert Band, preceding a talk evening gala concert with new music from Peter Meechan, Philip Sparke, Andrew Keenan and Rob Davies.

Cardiff New Brass Festival

Works: The Cardiff New Brass Festival (CNBF) has announced that its 2011 event, which takes place from the 10th - 12th June, will be set at one of the cities most iconic venues, Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral, with an additional fringe concert on the Glanfa Stage of the Wales Millennium Centre. The (CNBF) is a first for the Welsh music scene. The aim of the festival is to promote exciting new music for brass, showcasing cutting edge, accessible brass performance in Cardiff on the international stage. The Festival achieves this though programming an eclectic blend of Welsh composers and performers alongside a diverse range of international artists. It is also committed to encouraging the brass musicians of tomorrow, offering a professional performance opportunity for talented young composers and instrumentalists. Audiences will be thrilled by some of the finest performers from across Europe including Dean Wright (Principal Trumpet Welsh National Opera), Simon Dobson and the Oslofjord Band (Norway), BTM Band (Wales), Wormshead Brass (Wales) and the newly formed Symphonic Brass of the Royal Air Force (England). Alongside a showcase for young performers and composers there will also be a host of new music from Peter Meechan, Pail McGhee, Matthew Hall and Liz Lane, featuring at least four World premiere performances. Works: Following a performance at the Royal Albert Hall, GMSS will perform the Welsh premiere of Petries large-scale work for 800 musicians in St Davids Hall on July 4th. On the following 6th of that month, Gwent Youth String Orchestra will perform a piece written by Petrie in the Music For Youth festival in Birmingham.

Tonkunstler Orchestra

Works: Chris Petrie will conduct the Tonkunstler Orchestra in the premiere performance of his composition, Exo 2, at the picturesque Grafenegg Castle arts complex. Across the preceding weekend Petrie will be mentored by the great composer/conductor, HK Gruber.

Mavron String Quartet

Works: The first performance, commissioned by the Monmouth Festival with funds from the Arts Council of Wales, of footsteps quiet in the shadows (String Quartet No.2). The title is taken from a poem by Francesca Kay who will read the full work prior to the performance.
